There are two methods for setting variable types:
1.
By keyboard entry.
Place the cursor on row 2 of the desired column. Press the key associated with the desired
variable type.
2.
To set a large number of variable types with a few key
strokes, use the variable types dialog box.
This is reached by the menu tree: Applications / Variable Types (/AV)

a.
Types - click a radio button to indicate the desired type.
b.
Select All and Overwrite - If you choose the Select All
check box, then all columns will be checked below and will be subject to
updating of the indicated variable type.
The Overwrite checkbox controls whether to over-type already set
variable types. If the box is blank,
then any variable type on row 2 is NOT overwritten.
c.
Left, Right, and Center - controls the display of the
single character variable type letter.
d.
List Box - If you do not check Select All, then click the
checkbox for each column (variable) you wish to set the indicated variable
type. Conversely, if you did choose
Select All and there are specific columns you do not want to treat, then click
the check box off.
