Regression Model Analysis - Linearity (1)

The dependent variable is assumed to be a linear function of the set of independent variables plus the random error term.  Linearity of the regression model is examined in two alternative ways.  First, examine a plot of an independent variable against the regression residuals (see: Residual Plot for Linearity).  Alternatively, plot one independent variable against the dependent variable (see: Nonlinear Relationship Between Dependent and Independent).
